Christmas songs

Ok... So when your mum wakes you up after only a couple of hours sleep to clean up, the last thing you want to hear is CHRISTMAS SONGS blaring in the background. Especially since it's only mid-November indicating there is still a good MONTH away 'til the big day. Now me being a Catholic, I'm just as excited as the next devoutly Christian person, but REALLY MUM & DAD, are the songs necessary at this time!? When one is half conscious and is dusting, Christmas songs doesn't exactly whip them up into a cleaning frenzy!

But more to the point of Christmas songs... after spending most of my morning dusting to the sounds of Christmas, I've come to the conclusion that Christmas songs are becoming a little depressing. Sure, you can throw in a few bells jingling and a santa "ho, ho, ho"-ing, but it doesn't disguise the depressing lyrics that are crooned with it!

Example 1 - "I saw mummy kissing santa clause..." Oh geez! What kind of lyrics is that? It's a bit disturbing for kids, and if I'm not mistaken, it has adulterous connotations! That's taking the whole, "Christmas Spirit" thing to a whole new level!

Example 2 - "Daddy, please don't get drunk this Christmas. I don't wanna see my mumma cry..." Well i think the lyrics speaks for itself. *cough*ALCOHOLISM*cough*

Are we replacing the traditional Christmas songs of Christ's Birth and Christmas cheer for Christmas songs that subliminally address depressing issues? Haha.. No! I think it's just the randomness of my hyperactive thoughts!
